de·ter·mi·na·tionNoun/diˌtərməˈnāSHən/
1. Firmness of purpose; resolutenessso i had a great weekend. managed to do all of my activities that were surrounded with temptation and not succumb to the pizza, beer and bar food. i am officially into week 2 of my training for my 5k and i can honestly say it seems to be getting harder. that is where the procrastination comes into play. my body is yelling at me, my knees, shins, hips, legs and on and on hurt after this past 9 days. while it is physically getting harder i am going farther and father each training day - making forward progress! i have not missed a training day yet and even added gym time in but every night after work it gets later and later before i get on the treadmill. now that is also when determination comes into play, because no matter how late it may get i have not missed any of my training days yet.
i am working on adding pictures to my blog to help track my progress - i am not very tech savvy so it may take some time to figure out but definitely on the way.
on a side note today was SPD's 2nd day of 1st grade and his first day ever on a school bus. i am a bit of a neurotic parent and it took a lot of discussion before i gave into letting my baby boy get a big bus with no seat belts and a person driving i don't not know let alone trust. so today we went to the bus stop and waited for the bus. it arrived, i said hi, confirmed it was for his school, took a picture and kissed him goodbye. i then proceeded to follow the bus the whole way to school, allowing myself a better grasp of where the bus was going, how many stops, how many 'big" kids and overall safety of the driver. now hindsight being 20/20 i really should have told said bus driver i was going to do this so he would not call the police to tell them a big black SUV was following the bus for 25 minutes.
overall i am extremely impressed with his attention to detail and observations :) i wont follow the bus tomorrow.
buses are hard for me too, for the same reasons (unknown driver and no seat belts). You did very well to come to terms with it all in two days. And yes, would have been pretty funny if they had called police. I am sure you are not the first mom to follow a bus.
ReplyDeleteHonest question/no offense meant - are you better off on a bike or in a pool until you get more of your weight off (to avoid injury)? Did you run at this weight the last time? I know how tough it is to over come injuries and joint problems. Some of those things - once done, can't really be undone. Spoken by someone with lower back and knee and foot issues. If this comment was too much, just delete it and I will not be offended.
I just typed up a response to your comment and it disappeared??
ReplyDeleteVickie I do not at all take any offense to your questions, I really appreciate you read my posts and take the time to ask great challenging questions!! Keep them coming!
Now in response, I asked a PA/sports trainer if what I was doing was ok and would not cause any harm. I use the word run often and in all honesty it is really jocking (jog walk) and only for short times until week 6-9. I was advised that if I stuck to the training plan and did not add additional stress cardio to my week I should be ok. I think right now my body is revolting because I went from 0 to 100 overnight and I need to be cognoscente of not over doing anything and slow and steady wins!
Very interesting. Did PA take a look at your running shoes too? I know NADA about running shoes but know they are super important to be in the right ones.
ReplyDeletetotal side note: I walked off a lot of my initial weight loss. Power walked. Like sweat rolling, couldn't carry on a conversation, pushed hard. I can't roll over the length of my foot (broken metatarsal at age 18 which is still a problem at age 50) so I had to have someone work on my stride. I have to take shorter steps so my foot has less bend.
Another total side note: my feet went down as I lost weight. My foot guys says it is yoga. Pulled the stuff back where it is supposed to be. Like tightened up construction off foot. I have gone down shoes sizes and had to have my orthodics redone several times.
i do need new shoes and insoles. i use super feet insoles which are amazing but really should see about custom ones to save possibility of injury.
ReplyDeletei struggle more with walking than jogging - something about my shins - i get more shin splint walking fast than i do jogging slow. i wonder why that is?
probably positioning of some kind, length of the stride, how much you roll over your foot, how you push off from back foot, etc. Someone who knows could probably look at you and know in 2 seconds, like it would take you longer to ask the question than they would have the answer.
